Green Fort House
LOCATION: Lahore, Pakistan CLIENT: Syed Waqar Haider PROGRAM: Living Areas, Sleeping areas, Garden DESIGN: 2016 TYPE: Residential Project Credits MSA Team
Description Green Fort house is a residence done at the outskirts of Lahore city. Its site is surrounded by a calm, pollution free atmosphere with ample vegetation as a host. The context of this site works as a point of departure for its design process. The residence is carefully concealed from its adjacent road, by its form and plantation. One approaches the main entrance through a narrow passage, almost as if discovering it by chance. This entrance leads to a foyer, lit by natural light through skylight. The foyer directs itself towards a verandah that leads to an open courtyard. At the other side of the verandah are the living areas of the residence where giant wooden trusses connect all the areas at the ceiling. These living areas open up in to a huge yard that hosts a traditional fountain, buffered only by another verandah in between. The private areas of the residence are accommodated at the other end of the yard, segregating private and public activities. Responding to the climatic context of the area and determined by courtyards, verandahs and terraces, the design form of residence attempts to blur the boundaries between the exterior and interior. It takes its design understanding from the vernacular in its response to the pragmatic concerns of the program. PICTURES SKETCHES Construction
